Ken Ham in Liverpool

The Liverpool Humanists have submitted a review of Ken Ham's Liverpool lecture here

Ken Ham's Answers in Genesis creationist ministry is found here:-

I was in attendance at this meeting and I would like to share a few observations including a response to some of the points made by the Liverpool Humanist review.

First of all, the lecture theatre which holds hundreds of people was packed out. Ken delivered a very professional and persuasive speech that was greeted with a huge round of applause. It was encouraging to see people of all ages there, in good spirits.

Ken Ham didn't actually share anything really new however. It was pretty much the same material that you can hear on his video broadcasts, sometimes shown on Revelation TV & Genesis TV (sky 765 & 772).

If I may respond to some of the points made by the Liverpool Humanism review. The review seems more a description of events with a few inaccuracies thrown in along the way.

"There were two points in the talk where I was genuinely offended. The first was his dissection of young people's rejection of religion. According to his graphs, most teenagers walk away from religion by the end of high school because they are "asking too many questions"(!?)"

This is a misrepresentation of Ken's message and I can't remember Ken criticising anyone for "asking too many questions". Indeed his ministry is set up to provide answers to the questions people have regarding the Christian faith, a strange endeavour if he had a problem with people asking questions. He provided graphs showing the results of surveys on why teenagers walk away from the faith. They clearly showed how secular evolution ideas contribute towards this.

"The second shock came as he addressed the contradiction of a loving God with the existence of evil. No, God does not allow evil for it's eventual good to the human race. No, we shouldn't all have faith and hope for a better future."

This is a clear misrepresentation of Ken Ham's message and of the Christian faith. It's true that we live in a fallen world; the evidence for this is overwhelming. In contrast to atheism, the Christian faith offers an explanation for evil and genuine hope of a world without evil. Bible teaches us that things will not always be this way- Christ is coming back to reign. God will create a new heaven and new earth that will be without tears and pain. All will be judged and the devil thrown into the lake of fire. God will judge and remove evil forever. Furthemore Christianity gives the individual the guidance to move away from sin, the seeds of evil. If more people moved away from the sin in their lives wouldn't we live in a better society?

"Cue slide of Hitler and Auschwitz victims: this was OUR fault! The only way to save our miserable souls is to accept good old JC into our hearts."

If it wasn't OUR fault, then who's? Atheists can't exactly blame a God that they deny exists. It should be quite obvious that born-again Christians who knew their scripture would not find it acceptable to throw Jews into the gas chambers. Thank God the Christian UK and America and other Christian nations had the moral courage to fight this just war to rid the world of this godless Nazi regime.

And yes, the only way to get to heaven is to be clothed with the righteousness of Jesus. Self-righteousness won't do it. Standing up before God saying "I've lived a good life" won't do it. Sin is the barrier to heaven and we're all covered in it. Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse us of these stains so that we can enjoy eternal life.

It is striking in the review that we don't find any serious criticisms. Indeed I often find that atheists/humanists are quite frustrated with Ken Ham and AiG as they rely on misrepresentations in order to attack what they say. I suggest you go to AiG's website with an open mind and decide for yourself.

I have written an article in my blog that attempts to analyse the the background and theological position of Revelation & Genesis TV.

These TV channels are actually subsidised by the taxpayer.
